Advanced Reporting
3 units | 15 Weeks

This is an advanced reporting graduate class that will introduce students to the art of investigative reporting in real life situations. Students will learn how to interpret public records and budgets to write investigative reports on the government, religious organizations and financial institutions. They will apply their knowledge to a campus or community “beat” and participate in blogging, internet reporting and citizen journalism. The professor will take students on field trips to view public records and may invite guest speakers. Non-MA Journalism students can audit this course.

Objectives:
This graduate advanced reporting class will help students operate both in the Christian and secular marketplace, both nationally and internationally. 

Students will learn about:
  1. The American system of freedom of the press and the news industry
  2. The Christian publishing industry, especially the vast worldwide freelance markets.
  3. Advanced reporting techniques, including investigative journalism
  4. Analyzing documents, internet sources, and databases
