Hebrew
3 units | 15 Weeks

This course is an introduction to the grammar and syntax of biblical Hebrew. The purpose of the class is to provide a foundation for exegetical study, either personal or structured, of the Hebrew Scriptures.

This course is a necessary “foundation” course, in which a student gains a skill basic to a more thorough exegetical practice. It is a first step. The anticipation is that a student taking this course will become a more mature follower of Jesus because they are able to more fully “rightly divide the Word” (2 Timothy 2:15) rather than simply follow in exegetical footsteps by rote. They will comprehend for themselves more fully the call and ethic of God as presented in the Hebrew Bible and thus be able to lead others into a more mature relationship with Christ. In exploring the linguistic and cultural context of the Hebrew text and world, the student will be better able to understand the issues involved in cross-cultural communication today and also have a more basic starting point from which to express the Biblical message to today’s world.
