1. Academic Opportunity Initiative
Hiring Additional Faculty
Olivet University currently employs over 20 faculty members under our academic dean, Dr. William Lyle Wagner. Each college is planning to increase the number of professors hired to improve academic services for our continually growing student body. We are placing a strong emphasis on the development of our online education program in 2009, and each college will need more faculty resources to help our online education program become among the best offered by Christian institutions. Each college is aiming to hire at least one additional full time faculty member, with OTCS considering hiring several, and our donations will go a long way in determining our future faculty outlay.
Student Scholarship Fund
Olivet University is home to hundreds of Christian students who are working to become Christian professionals. Our network reaches Christians from all over the globe, and we currently have students enrolled from 6 continents. Olivet aims to provide an education for all qualified students that will advance their careers in the context of the Kingdom of God. Our scholarship fund, in the form of tuition assistance, is designed to assist students who are capable materially, though perhaps not financially, to study at our school.
Online Education Initiative
Olivet University aims to have a leading online education program among Christian institutions. We recognize that there are many Christians located in regions of the world where access to local quality Christian education is either extremely difficult or impossible. Through the internet, we can offer students opportunities for developing academically, for fellowship, and for receiving a degree that will allow them to continue their professional Christian careers: whether as missionaries, or working and supporting their local church.
2. Increase Learning Resources
Library Resources
The University library currently holds over 120,000 volumes, an expected amount for an institution of our size. We also operate the Stevens Books bookstore, which has over a half-million used Christian books. Although our library in San Francisco has been set up, we are still gathering donations to make the remaining payments on our prior arrangements for stocking our library. After all payments are completed for our library and bookstore, we will use these books to support Christian ministries and libraries around the world.
Online Library Resources
Olivet University’s digital library can be viewed at http://www.rdwl.org. Our online library started many years ago, but underwent a significant overhaul in 2008. The library is now integrated with the school’s curriculum and is invaluable for our students involved with online education. The e-library uses MARC records to index all of our digital content, which includes content from over 7 collections, over 30,000 ebooks, 8,300 academic journals, and 7,000,000 articles. All of our e-library content is available to students and staff of OU. Donations help pay for our content subscriptions, which we also aim to expand in 2009.
3. Donations by OU Colleges
OTCS
The purpose of Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS) is to provide ministry-bound men and women with the theological knowledge and skills necessary for professional ministry service, especially in the area of missions. The curricula of OTCS, which includes undergraduate and graduate programs, are designed to train students for service as scholars and leaders in all areas of Christian life.
JCM
Jubilee College of Music (JCM) provides students with a sound education in music within the context of Olivet University’s mission. The College offers a complete learning experience for the aspiring Christian musician, with curricular options that cover studies in traditional and contemporary music styles. By they time they graduate, JCM students will also have experienced a range of worship and evangelistic opportunities involving music in preparation for professional ministry – including conference events, publishing, broadcasting, recording, and live performance.
OCJ
Olivet College of Journalism (OCJ) is dedicated to training a new generation of journalists who report the news from a uniquely Christian perspective. We recruit aspiring journalists who are Christians and help them become proficient and professional in their calling of journalism. The Collage also prepares them as Biblical scholars and leaders, equipped for professional ministry service in the fields of mass communication and digital media.
OCAD
Olivet College of Art & Design (OCAD) is founded on scriptural values. Students who graduate from OCAD can expect to gain Biblical training that prepares them to explore the interface between design, art, and contemporary Christian mission as future ministry leaders. They can also expect to gain skills that meet or surpass industry standards for art and design techniques.
OIT
As a research institution, Olivet Institute of Technology (OIT) believes that technological, and research and development will uncover fundamentally new responses to lingering obstacles to global ministry. The Institute is dedicated to training students with the theological and technological knowledge to discover these responses in the “Network Generation”. Graduates of the Institute are prepared to work in ministry environments that enhance the ability of the Christian community to harness the power of information technology.
