Mid-Quarter Reflections on OTCS Romans Theology Course

Theology students enrolled in the fall quarter Romans course at Olivet Theological College and Seminary provide insight unto the expository study of the book of Romans. The book has been described as the most doctrinal and practical book of the New Testament. The course is designed to provide students with an in-depth look by examining chapters 1-8.

The Romans course is one of the most popular courses among OTCS students. Through studying the book of Romans, students can gain a proper doctrinal understanding of salvation. As future preachers and ministers, students are also preparing themselves to assist others in understanding this important book.

Students shared their reflections on the Romans course in the month of October.

"Through the Romans course, I realize the importance of studying sin deeply. Sin leads man to death. As Apostle Paul says in Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death. For a man to keep himself away from the path of death, he needs to know sin and keep himself away from it. The most important part of learning sin is learning its practical implications in one's daily lives. Learning and teaching sin in the church is a sign of a healthy church," shared Qingling Liu.

"Apostle Paul said, 'I am not ashamed of the gospel; this gospel is the power of God, to save all who believes.' As I listened to the exposition of this bible verse in the Romans class, I was inspired by Apostle Paul's bold declaration of his faith in the gospel of Christ. It has become the confession of my life as well," shared Ruth Li.

"Romans is a very profound book. It teaches about the weakness of man. However, the power of God gave salvation to mankind through the cross of Christ. We are sinners and there is no way to set ourselves free from sin, but Jesus bore our sins and died for our salvation. Because of this redemptive work of Jesus, we can be called righteous. I really have nothing to boast about, only by grace I am saved." shared Yunchuan He.

Students have reached the middle of the quarter and are preparing for the course's midterm exam in the coming week.
