Olivet Leaders Convene for Faculty Meeting

Olivet faculty and administrative leaders gathered for this summer's general faculty meeting and retreat.  College deans, professors, program directors, and staff from across the University came together to report and strategize on the University's academic future.  

Led by President Dr. William Wagner, the meeting consisted of presentations and future plans from each department.  College deans addressed progress and questions on how the University can efficiently deliver courses to a growing diverse body of students.  Directors gave presentations and reports that opened up discussions on how to further Christian service and community impact.

"We want to form and create spiritual community where Jesus Christ will be lifted up here at Olivet," addressed Dr. Wagner in the opening devotional prayer.

College Deans and program directors outlined curriculum proposals designed to strengthen the areas of theology, music,  journalism, design, technology, business, and language.  Reports from the Olivet Institute of Technology included current trends and tools for distance learning.  The technology used for online education and communication are under evaluation this year in order to enhance the platforms current offerings. 

Activities outside of academics showcased the University's continuing networks and collaborative efforts with other major Christian institutions.  Reports included book donations to international ministries and  ongoing work with the late Dr. Ralph Winter's "Global Great Commission Network" project.  

Olivet's developments garnered words of support from the University's Chairman of the Board. Dr. Andrew Lin explained  that the Board of Directors are in full support of each project taking place at Olivet.  Dr. Lin also spoke of the school's main reason of existence which is to develop mission. 

"We are here to supply you with what you need and give advice and guidance," said Lin. "We started off as church planters and developing missions, this is how the bible college started and it grew from there," added the Chairman.

As the meeting adjourned, college faculty and staff held separate breakout sessions along with time of fellowship.  The next faculty meeting is tentatively scheduled for September.
