Living Out Servant Leadership

At Olivet University, volunteerism is a vital expression of Christian discipleship. Jesus taught that true greatness comes from serving others (Mark 10:45). Our university encourages every student, faculty member, and staff member to actively seek opportunities to volunteer, build community, and address the tangible needs of those around us.

Active Volunteer Initiatives

Opportunities are available year-round across our campuses and regional communities:

• Community Food & Emergency Outreach: Participating in local food drives, sorting groceries, and distributing essential supplies to families and seniors in need.
• Academic Tutoring & Language Mentorship: Offering free language assistance, ESL tutoring, and after-school academic support for immigrant families and local youth.
• Campus Fellowship & Chapel Ministry: Assisting in worship setup, media production, hospitality, and welcoming new students into the Olivet fellowship.
• Environmental Stewardship & Campus Care: Engaging in campus beautification, community gardening, and eco-stewardship initiatives that care for God's creation.

Christian Service & Academic Integration

Many on-campus and community volunteer placements qualify for credit toward the university's Christian Service and Ministry Practice graduation requirements.

All volunteer positions must uphold Christian testimony and provide a safe, respectful environment. The Office of the Academic Dean, in consultation with the Dean of Students, coordinates on-campus volunteer roles (including library support, administrative assistance, and facility care).
