Doctoral Students Share Progress and Receive Mentorship from Ph.D. Committee

December 30, 2019

Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies (ZSDS) organized a joint meeting of the Ph.D. committee and Ph.D. students for the first time in December after the doctoral colloquium in October.

Students reported the progress of their doctoral work, including challenges and problems when doing research. In response to their reports, professors actively mentored each student.

The students also presented the progress of their independent studies for the academic year 2019-2020. The presentation included topics and areas of study that students are researching. The independent study courses help students break down their doctoral research into smaller units, allowing them to produce a more focused and refined thesis.

"I was very pleased that everyone was able to join us. I believe that the meeting was helpful and informative. All the mentors were very glad to get an update from the students. It helps us stay better connected," said Director of the Ph.D. program Dr. Mark Wagner.

During the meeting, the courses offered during the previous colloquium were evaluated. Faculty and students provided suggestions on the areas that needed improvements.

ZSDS Dean Dr. Donald Tinder shared his recent experience of attending the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) annual meeting. He encouraged doctoral students to submit academic articles to renowned theological journals. The next Ph.D. meeting is scheduled for later this month.
