OSAD to Host Summer 3D Modeling Workshop

April 22, 2019

This Summer Quarter, the Olivet School of Art and Design (OSAD), will be planning to host a 2-week intensive 3D modeling workshop for Olivet University (OU) students. Students interested to learn the basics of 3D computer modeling are welcomed to join. The workshop serves as a self-enrichment opportunity to gain introductory skills for generating models with an emphasis in product design.

Participants can utilize the model to compose different imageries for presentations, marketing, product analyzation, or prep it for 3D printing. During the workshop, students will learn how to build models with 3D modeling software such as Maya and ZBrush. Basics will be taught as the instructor will guide the process from design and conceptualization to the final product. Students will be able to get hands-on experience with direct feedback from the instructor, encouraging them to go from visuals to a completed product.

"This workshop will help broaden our students' mindset not only in conceptualization but also in the business arena," said OSAD Associate Dean Zimou Tan.

"Students can begin to design a product with their customers in mind, finding ways to improve usability and aesthetics by looking at their models from multiple angles. This workshop could be a launching pad for those who wish to present and create their own products in the future," added Tan.

OSAD seeks to provide an opportunity for everyone to enroll in this workshop by offering it online. More details on the workshop are still under discussion and applications will be open to students later this quarter.
